Did you know that this week is "Recipe Greetings for the Holidays Week"? It is!
Do you have family traditions and special meals that you look forward too each year? We do! Our family sat down tonight and frosted the Christmas Cookies! It is definitely a family tradition that has been passed down through the generations in my husband's family. Though, this year, it is looking quite different. Not getting together this time, but that doesn't mean we aren't doing it! We have!
One day is devoted to creating and baking the cookies. We altered things a bit this year, we did a tie-dye cookie after seeing a fun TikTok video. Same recipe the rest of the family uses, just added a bit of color into the cookies and swapped out for gluten-free ingredients. As you can see here we have many shapes and sizes. Think we ended up with about 50-75 cookies in total. The cookie cutters range from houses, ornaments, mittens, wreaths, stockings, trees, trains, people, and stars.
*Note: Not sure what we did, but the dough came out super flakey light and amazing! Don't get that often enough with gluten-free baking. And if you are trying to go for this colorful version, make sure you roll it out well enough that there aren't seams. You can see in a few baking here that didn't happen and those ended up breaking along the seams.
Having a table full of pans of buttermilk sugar cookies, dishes full of buttermilk frosting, and loads of containers of different toppings makes such a scene! The frosting is just creamy white and then all the different colors pop in the toppings from sprinkles, dots, and chocolate. Oh, and did I mention sprinkles of every color!
I forgot to take a decorating picture - oops! Guess we were just enjoying being IN the moment!
Now the cookies are packed into the freezer. Don't cringe! For some reason, they are better after they have been frozen. We take them out for our different holiday events and definitely for Santa and his Reindeer!
